Boxes

After the ‘food pyramid’, another arrangement for the found boxes - playing with these in studio is like playing with supersized lego blocks, such fun

I thought this might feel like a dingy alleyway behind a supermarket, but Holly commented that she felt really comfortable standing in the doorway?? I think there is something appealing about the colours, and familiar, or nostalgic. There's the idea of abundance.

Documentation week 22: boxes

For the past few weeks I've been collecting fruit and veggie boxes from my local grocers' shop, Jack Lums, and bringing them into studio.

Some of them have the most amazing images on them: garish, tacky, wonderful screen-printed logos and representations of colourful produce. It looks as if they haven't changed since the 1950s.
While I feel like these work well as standalone pieces, the 'readymade' is foreign territory for me, and I'm still trying to work out what to do with these now that I have them on hand.
For now I'm just playing with them like giant lego. Below is a 'food pyramid.'
